Highway to Enlightenment: Awakening Universal Love Retreat, with Tenzin Palmo - Fri 4th to Sun 6th July 2025
Date: Fri 4th, Sat 5th & Sun 6th July 2025
Times: Starting with a welcome on Friday evening, closing Sunday early afternoon
Format: Residential retreat, onsite
Overview
‘From cherishing myself comes all that’s bad.
From cherishing my mothers all that’s good.
Exchanging self and others, bless me thus,
To make this yoga my essential task.’
In Buddhism so much of our unhappiness is said to come from a self-focused, self-cherishing mind, an attitude that is disposed to seeking its own welfare. Contrary to this, the mind that is ‘other cherishing’, an attitude disposed to securing the welfare of others, is said to be the source of all happiness. Building this mind is the foundation of Bodhichitta, the sincere wish to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings, known as the gateway of the Bodhisattva path.
Join us for a quiet and transformative weekend retreat dedicated to opening the heart and deepening your practice of compassion. Guided by the profound Awakening Mind verses from the Lama Chöpa—a classic Tibetan Buddhist text by Losang Chökyi Gyaltsan—we will explore the essence of the bodhisattva path: living with wisdom, love, and selfless intention.
Over two days of meditation, reflection, and gentle teachings, we’ll journey through themes such as:
Seeing all beings as our kind mothers
Recognising and releasing self-cherishing
Exchanging self and others through tonglen
Transforming adversity into the path
Living the bodhisattva attitude in everyday life
Whether you’re new to mind training or returning to deepen your understanding, this retreat offers a space for stillness, insight, and heartfelt connection with others on the path.
