Mission Statement for the Grounds of Lam Rim
Here at Lam Rim, we are very fortunate to have eight and half acres of woodland, glade, lawn and orchard and a produce area where we grow vegetables and soft fruit.
We have decided that in response to the climate emergency and following Buddhist principles to demonstrate loving kindness to the plants and animals with whom with share this place, we will manage the grounds in ways that work in harmony with nature and favour the growing potential and biodiversity of this land.
This means that we are now re-wilding parts of the grounds that don’t need to be mowed and we are planting local, native trees that will extend the woodland and enhance the biodiversity of the glade.
We are also growing all our vegetables organically with minimum digging and using our own compost to enrich the soil.
We are also committed to lowering our carbon footprint to help tackle climate change.
This means that we aim to not use or keep any petrol or electric gardening tools to a minimum, often opting for hand tools where we can, including scythes and so on.
The result is that Lam Rim is now a haven of peace and tranquility, where organic growing, re-wilding and low carbon living are being put into practice in our day to day lives.
So, if you are interested in planting trees, organic gardening, scything or just about this way of living with nature, please consider coming here as a volunteer, unplugging from modern Britain and reconnecting with the natural world.
Currently, we would welcome local, day volunteers who can give a few hours on a regular basis to help our resident gardener. If you think you could help, please email lamrimwalesmanagers@gmail.com and we will get back in touch with you.
